The New LLMi Laser Modules in Hybrid Design

Nov 2020: We introduce the new LLMi line laser modules in hybrid design. These modules include all insights gained over the past years and were developed based on many customer requests. The result is a range of very powerful and universally usable miniature line lasers with outstanding features:

• Small design with 12 mm diameter and 55 mm housing length
• Wide voltage input up to 30 VDC supply voltage with low currents
• Electrically insulated housings without potential. Easy and safe to install
• 3-lens glass collimators for excellent beam properties
• Robust and temperature-resistant cable hose with strain relief at the housing outlet

Wide voltage input

The hybrid design of the driver electronics, derived from our NeoDrive driver series, has an upstream switching regulator followed by a linear control of the diode current. This combines several advantages: low power losses and therefore low heat generation, a wide input voltage range, low supply currents and stable control of the diode current. A switch-on delay prevents the laser diode from being supplied with current during the critical settling process and therefore reduces possible error states in the control electronics, which could lead to early diode failure.

Safety features

To reduce risks for the laser diode as much as possible, we have equipped the electronics with numerous safety features. In addition to the standard reverse polarity protection, both overvoltage protection and undervoltage protection are integrated. We also eliminate switch-on peaks through a switch-on delay of approx. 3 seconds.

Electrically insulated housing

All laser diodes used have no potential on the housing, which is of course a major advantage for installation in machines, as no electrical short circuits to machine ground can occur. Even when several laser modules are operated in parallel in one machine, no malfunctions occur. Additional insulation is not required.

Design versions

All LLMi modules are equipped exclusively with our proven glass collimator, providing excellent thermal stability and excellent optical properties. For the supply connection, we have chosen a cable hose with a robust sheath. This protects the wires from bending or shearing off too quickly and is highly temperature-resistant. At the cable outlet, the round housing has an additional strain relief with a rubber sleeve.

Options / custom versions

Customer-specific cable lengths from 10 cm to 100 m are possible, as well as the adaptation of almost any connector. Our standard portfolio includes M8 and M12 industrial connectors. JST, Molex or other connectors are also possible.

Service life

Since all laser diodes are always operated below their rated current, we expect a very long service life of 25,000 hours and more.
